LeBron James Joins 76ers in Pursuit of Historic Fifth NBA Championship

The biggest move of the 2026 NBA free agency period has reportedly been finalized, with LeBron James agreeing to join the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year, $8 million contract, Yahoo Sports reported.

James reportedly informed the Los Angeles Lakers at the start of free agency that he intended to play for a new team during the 2026-27 NBA season. Several teams, including the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, and Minnesota Timberwolves, were reportedly interested in signing the four-time NBA champion.

In a post on X, the 41-year-old James said he contemplated retirement at the end of last season and needed time to decide on his future.

Explaining his decision, James said his desire to compete for another NBA championship led him to choose the 76ers.

If Philadelphia wins the title, James would become the first player in NBA history to win championships with four different franchises.
