NBA superstar LeBron James will reportedly leave the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason, ending his eight-season tenure with the franchise ahead of the 2026–27 NBA season, ESPN first reported.

According to a recent report by Forbes, citing ESPN insider Shams Charania and Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, James informed the Lakers that they could move forward without him.
James, who joined the Lakers in 2018, is set to enter his 24th NBA season, extending his NBA record for the most seasons played.
ESPN reported that the Golden State Warriors are expected to pursue James after free agency opened Tuesday evening, following Draymond Green's decision to decline his $27.6 million player option, creating additional salary cap flexibility.
James, who turns 42 in December, could accept a pay cut if he joins Golden State.
The Warriors are considered early favorites to sign him, while the Cleveland Cavaliers—the team that drafted James in 2003—have also expressed interest, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes.
Charania said James' priority in choosing his next team would be "happiness" rather than salary.
The Miami Heat have also emerged as a potential destination after reportedly signing Giannis Antetokounmpo. James previously played for Miami from 2010 to 2014, helping the franchise reach four consecutive NBA Finals and win two championships.
