Lula received 64,256,232 votes, or 51.79% of valid ballots, while Bolsonaro secured 59,826,041 votes, equivalent to 48.21%, Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court reported.
The difference between the candidates was 4,430,191 votes, giving Lula a clear majority of valid votes in the closely contested election.
The result was announced by the country’s electoral authorities following the second round of voting. The official figures establish Lula as the winner of the presidential contest.
The election highlighted Brazil’s political divisions, with the candidates representing opposing political camps.
The outcome sets the stage for Lula’s next term as he faces economic pressures and the challenge of building legislative support for his administration’s priorities.
The result also marks another major electoral contest between the political forces associated with Lula and the Bolsonaro family, whose influence has remained central to Brazil’s recent political landscape.
