U.S. Delays Approval of Patriot Missile Transfers to Ukraine, Report Says

The Trump administration has yet to approve the transfer of Patriot interceptor missiles to Ukraine from countries that possess the US-made weapons, a delay that could affect Kyiv’s ability to defend against Russian missile and drone attacks, The Washington Post reported. Vic Verbalaitis reported on the development for The Daily Beast.

Some transfers of Patriot interceptor missiles from countries supporting Ukraine require approval from US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to The Washington Post.
Because the missiles are manufactured in the United States, their transfer to third countries is subject to US export restrictions and approval requirements.
Officials told the newspaper that the administration had not rejected the transfers outright but had yet to complete the necessary approval steps.
A Ukrainian official told The Washington Post that only a few Patriot interceptors remained in Ukraine’s arsenal.
In a statement to The Daily Beast, a senior Pentagon official said there had been no change to the Department of Defense’s policy on intelligence sharing or capabilities provided to Ukraine through European partners.
“The Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative, through which NATO allies and partners provide commensurate contributions for US-provided defense articles and services, continues unaltered,” the official said.
The reported delay has raised concerns about Ukraine’s access to air-defense interceptors as Russia continues its attacks. However, the administration’s position on individual transfers should be distinguished from its broader policy on military assistance to Ukraine.
