Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva responded defiantly to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat of 50% tariffs, declaring that Brazil does not need trade with the United States to survive, Yahoo Finance reported.

The Brazilian leader emphasized that Trump must respect Brazil’s sovereignty and warned that the dispute “could be endless.” I Photo: Lula X
“We’re going to have to look for other partners to buy our products,” Lula said in an interview with Record TV, citing that U.S. trade only accounts for 1.7% of Brazil’s GDP.
In a separate interview with Globo TV, the Brazilian leader emphasized that Trump must respect Brazil’s sovereignty and warned that the dispute “could be endless.” Lula’s remarks signal a sharp turn in Brazil-U.S. relations as the South American nation seeks to diversify its trade partnerships amid escalating tensions.
