The latest CNN poll has confirmed that majority of Americans approve the indictment and trial of defeated US president Donald Trump, who has been slapped with 34 felony charges by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr.

Writing for Politicus USA, Sarah Reese Jones stressed that only Republicans are concerned with Trump, and whatever increase in his approval ratings comes from his Republican base, not with independents, not with Democrats, and even with traditional GOP members who want to get rid of him.
This is in contrast with the latest GOP primary polls that show Trump's lead over DeSantis growing and, in some cases, doubling from 15 points to 30 points (54%-24%) in a month, the latest Fox News poll showed.
This means the indictment and trial will help Trump among 30% of Republicans but will doom him with the overwhelming number of independents and Democrats who vote religiously.
In the CNN poll, 62% of independents support the indictment and only 38% disapproving. They are convinced it was unethical and only 8% believe he did nothing wrong. A full 60% of Americans approve of the Trump indictment even as 3/4 believe that politics played at least some role in the decision.
Among Democrats, 94% approve, including 71% who strongly approve of the indictment, with Republicans less unified in opposition (79% disapprove, with 54% strongly disapproving).”
A YouGov poll from last week found 66% of respondents think that Trump definitely, or probably, committed a crime.
