Meralco Triumphs At The 2024 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has once again proven its leadership in innovation and sustainability by winning five prestigious awards at the 2024 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards.

The awarding ceremony, held on May 24, 2024, in Taguig City, celebrated Meralco’s outstanding initiatives in sustainability, thought leadership, and social media.

This year, the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards received over 1,000 nominations from organizations across 29 markets. The awards are known for recognizing innovation in the workplace, making Meralco’s achievements particularly significant.

Maggie Miller, President of the Stevie Awards, commended the winners for their commitment to innovation and perseverance.

“The organizations that won this year have demonstrated that they are committed to being innovative, and we applaud them for their perseverance and creativity,” added Miller.

Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications, expressed pride in the company’s international recognition.

“One Meralco continuously champions innovation in all forms. We are honored to be recognized internationally for our campaigns and programs that aim to exhibit our strong commitment to providing excellent customer service and contributing to the economic development of our country,” said Zaldarriaga.

Meralco's impressive haul included three Gold Stevies. One of these was awarded for the company’s “Meralco Supplier Sustainability Scorecard (MS3) Program” in the Building Sustainable Supply Chains category.

This program aims to enhance sustainability across Meralco’s value chain by assessing business partners’ environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance against 14 Sustainable Development Goals and 131 Global Reporting Initiative standards.

The MS3 Program, which began in 2022, has been pivotal in ensuring 93% of Meralco’s top suppliers comply with stringent sustainability standards.

The second Gold Stevie came under the Most Innovative Facebook Page category for Meralco’s campaign “Redefining Meralco’s Facebook Page to Empower and Engage Customers.”

This initiative, launched in 2023, revamped Meralco’s social media presence to better meet customer needs, providing valuable content and strengthening trust.

Meralco Power Academy (MPA), Meralco’s educational arm, also brought home a Gold Stevie for the “Giga Summit on Sustainable Energy, Energy Efficiency, and Future Grid” under the Thought Leadership Campaign of the Year category.

The summit, held over three days in 2023, gathered global and local experts to discuss transitioning to sustainable energy sources, optimizing energy use, and developing resilient grids.

Meralco’s environmental initiatives were further recognized with a Silver Stevie in the Reuse and Recycle category for its “Race to Zero Waste Program.”

This initiative successfully diverted 96% of waste from landfills in 2022, a significant increase from 17% in 2019.

Rounding out Meralco’s awards was a Bronze Stevie in the Climate Hero of the Year category, awarded to Raymond B. Ravelo, Meralco’s First Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer.

Since his appointment in 2020, Ravelo has been instrumental in embedding sustainability within Meralco, earning the company top ESG scores and multiple accolades.

The Stevie® Awards, established in 2002, are widely considered the world's premier business awards, recognizing the achievements and positive contributions of organizations and working professionals globally.

They include the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards, which focus on innovation across the region. Winners are determined by the average scores of more than 100 executives worldwide, who serve as judges.

Meralco’s recent accolades at the 2024 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards highlight the company’s unwavering dedication to sustainability, innovation, and excellence in customer engagement.
