Metro Pacific Investments Corp (MPIC) is undertaking a "green economic initiative in a blue environment" as it promotes environmental awareness in Alaminos, Pangasinan, Siargao in Mindanao, and Cordova in Cebu.

MPIC vice-president for public relations, Melody del Rosario unveiled the conglomerate's plans in pushing awareness on the effects of dynamite fishing, as well as initiating mangrove plantations that act as natural barriers to tidal waves and marshaling "Bantay Dagat" personnel to guard against the environmental destruction of the seas.

Del Rosario said in a radio interview over DWIZ that the MPIC efforts have been met with optimism even from those who used to do "dynamite fishing." She said that one fisherman who practiced dynamite fishing had surrendered and lauded the MPIC efforts that led to more fish catch.

"Dumami ng dumami ang fish catch that the fishermen are now partners of MPIC," she said, adding that when the conglomerate started the Bantay Dagat initiative, the initial challenge was the language barrier.

So, MPIC had the literature translated to Visayan.

Del Rosario bared that MPIC's establishment of a mangrove center in Cordova has led to the propagation of seagrass that has astounded local folks.

The Cordova presence is significant due to MPIC's bridge project, the third in Cebu that aims to decongest the traffic in two exciting bridges.

The Cordova suspension bridge is an 8.5-kilometer expressway that will feature eight crosses rising 40 meters high on four sides of the bridge that will remain lit at night.

The crosses symbolize the Magellan Cross that started the country on a path to Christianity 500 years ago.

Meanwhile, Del Rosario revealed that there is a new "basura" that is littering the oceans recalling how she came to discover face masks and face shields in one of her dives.

"It is disheartening to see the face masks and face shields," she said, citing the "disaster on the ecosystem that the anti-COVID-19 health items will inflict on all of us."
