Microsoft has begun merging its consumer and enterprise Copilot applications, rolling out a unified experience to a small group of users as the company moves toward a broader Copilot platform, Sebastian Herrera reported for Fortune Tech.

The unified experience brings consumer and Microsoft 365 Copilot functions together under the Microsoft Copilot brand. Microsoft has said it is working to create a more integrated Copilot experience across consumer and commercial products.

The company's March announcement said the consumer and commercial Copilot organizations were being brought together as part of a unified strategy.

Some consumer features are being retired as part of the transition. Microsoft says Deep Research and Podcasts will be retired beginning Aug. 18, while Group Chats are also being discontinued.

Existing Deep Research reports will remain accessible, but Podcasts and previously created podcast content will no longer be available after the retirement.

The consolidation is part of Microsoft's longer-term effort to create a more integrated Copilot platform.

The company has described its strategy as bringing consumer and commercial Copilot efforts together, while continuing to maintain separation between users' personal and work data.
