Mitsubishi Commissions 2.65-GW Power Plant In Thailand

Located 130 km southeast of Bangkok, the recently-commissioned Chonburi gas turbine combined cycle thermal power generation plant is made up of four power trains, each made up of four subsystems, an M701JAC gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator, steam turbine, and generator, NS Energy reported.

Mitsubishi Power said that the fourth and final unit of the Chonburi power plant, a 2.65 GW natural gas-fired power facility in Thailand, has commenced operation. The plant is owned by a joint venture (JV) between Thai power producer Gulf Energy Development and Mitsui & Co.
The Chonburi power plant is one of the two gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) thermal power generation systems in Thailand for which Mitsubishi Power won full-turnkey orders for construction in 2018.
The second power plant is currently being built in Rayong Province, said the power solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). The power produced from both the GTCC power plants will be sold to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).
The Chonburi power plant is operated by Gulf SRC, the JV of Gulf Energy Development and Mitsui. The plant’s first unit was put into commercial operation 1.5 years ago. The second unit was commissioned one year ago, while the third unit has been in commercial operation for six months.
