Chinese artificial intelligence startup Moonshot unveiled Kimi K3, a 2.8-trillion-parameter model that it says is the world's largest open-weight AI system, Reuters reported.

According to the company, the model delivers performance approaching Anthropic's frontier Fable model while supporting advanced reasoning, long-horizon coding, and complex knowledge-based tasks.
The launch comes amid intensifying competition between Chinese and U.S. AI developers, with firms such as Moonshot, Z.ai, and MiniMax rapidly introducing increasingly capable models at significantly lower costs.
Moonshot said Kimi K3 is the first open-weight model to approach the three-trillion-parameter threshold.
The model also features a one-million-token context window, enabling it to process and retain substantially more information within a single prompt than previous generations.
Reuters noted that the release follows heightened competition in the global AI sector as companies race to improve performance while reducing computing costs.
