A decade-long collaboration with MPower evolves into a model for sustainable hospitality.
At the intersection of heritage hospitality and modern sustainability, The Peninsula Manila is embarking on a decisive transition – powering its storied five-star operations with renewable energy.

The move, forged through a renewed partnership with MPower, the retail electricity supply arm of Meralco, signals both a symbolic and practical shift in the hotel industry’s approach to energy consumption.
For a property that has long defined luxury in Makati’s financial district, known for its grand lobby, iconic Rigodon Ballroom, and award-winning dining outlets, this is more than a behind-the-scenes utility change.
It is a statement of intent: that the business of hospitality can evolve to meet the demands of a carbon-conscious era while retaining its hallmark of impeccable guest service.
A Legacy Partnership Recharged
The Peninsula Manila has been an MPower client for more than a decade. Their renewed energy supply agreement elevates the collaboration into new territory, one rooted in the sustainability agenda shaping the global travel and tourism sector.
“This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship,” said Hotel Director Kevin Tsang at the signing ceremony.

“By uniting, we are enabling cleaner, more efficient energy solutions that reduce carbon footprint and contribute to the global fight against climate change. Our partnership serves as a benchmark for responsible business practices and inspires others to pursue a greener world for our future generations.”
The agreement makes The Peninsula Manila only the second Peninsula property in Southeast Asia and the fourth globally to fully transition to renewable energy. For MPower, the milestone reflects its evolving role beyond supplying electricity to actively enabling clients’ long-term sustainability ambitions.
“Our more than a decade of partnership stands as a testament to shared vision and service excellence,” noted MPower Head Redel M. Domingo.
“It even grows stronger with a renewable energy supply commitment. We are shaping the present with purpose, and now we move forward with confidence and unity towards sustainable progress.”
Sustainability as a Guest Experience Imperative
The shift forms part of The Peninsula Hotels’ “Sustainable Luxury Vision 2030,” launched in 2021 to align operations with environmental and social imperatives. For

The Peninsula Manila, this translates to concrete actions across its 497 guest rooms, signature restaurants such as Old Manila and Escolta, and its expansive wellness and events facilities.
Energy use, water efficiency, and food sourcing have all been earmarked as operational areas to refine for lower impact while sustaining the hotel’s global reputation for service excellence.

In an industry where energy-intensive air conditioning, lighting, and event spaces are non-negotiable, the renewable transition is not only about corporate responsibility but also about future-proofing.
As travelers increasingly factor sustainability into their booking decisions, The Peninsula Manila positions itself as both a heritage landmark and a forward-looking hospitality leader.
The Broader Energy Context
For MPower, a company born from Meralco’s century-long expertise and the deregulated retail electricity market, the partnership illustrates how energy providers are redefining their value proposition.
MPower leverages a diversified power portfolio and advisory services, empowering corporations like The Peninsula Manila to pursue cost-competitive, sustainable operations without sacrificing reliability.
The story here is one of convergence – a luxury hotel seeking to reduce environmental impact and an energy partner aligning commercial strength with climate action.
Together, they are reimagining how five-star hospitality can thrive in a low-carbon world where sustainability is not an afterthought but part of the service promise.
As the Philippine hospitality sector recovers and reinvents itself amid global travel’s rebound, The Peninsula Manila’s green power pivot may serve as a bellwether. Guests may not see the solar arrays or wind farms behind their afternoon tea at The Lobby.
But in choosing to stay, dine, and celebrate at the Peninsula, they are increasingly part of a narrative where luxury and sustainability are no longer parallel tracks but converging pathways.
