After six years of a liberal government led for most of that time by Jacinda Ardern, the people voted for change.
The exact composition of Luxon's government is yet to be determined as ballots are still being counted. Luxon received a warm reception at an event in Auckland, where he was joined on stage by his wife, Amanda, and their children, William and Olivia.
Outgoing Prime Minister Chris Hipkins, who held the top position for just nine months after taking over from Ardern in January, conceded and informed his supporters.
Hipkins expressed that it wasn't the outcome he had hoped for. He stated, "But I want you to be proud of what we achieved over the last six years," addressing his supporters at an event in Wellington.
