The Alphafly NEXT % 2 is an innovative design that builds on lessons learned from the first iteration of Nike's pinnacle racing shoe. It now serves the future of runners of all levels.

“Since its inception, the Alphafly has been inspired by the most elite runners going after world records. The updates we’ve made in the second iteration continue to equip elite athletes competing on the world stage but were focused on improving the racing experience for all runners chasing their personal best," says Elliott Heath, Nike Running Footwear Product Manager.

The updates to the Alphafly NEXT % 2 focused on improving the shoe's construction to help all runners complete the marathon distance with improved stability and transition.

The midsole is made of full-length ZoomXfoam (Nike's lightest and most resilient foam), a full-length curved carbonplate, and dual Zoom Air pods, giving runners a propulsive, light, and supportive ride.

More foam was added under the Zoom Air pods in the forefoot, ensuring a smooth transition from heel to forefoot as runners stride. A slightly wider heel, on the other hand, aids in stability and transition through pace changes.

Atomknit 2.0 has been added to the upper for forefoot containment, breathability above the toes, and comfortable padding under the laces.

The Alphafly NEXT % 2 prototype colorway was inspired by Nike's elite marathon athletes and pays homage to Nike's development process of testing with athletes. This colorway includes a wear test number on the medial side as well as color pops that highlight the dual Zoom Air bags.

The Nike Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT % 2 prototype colorway was made available in limited quantities last June 15.
