Nikon, which began selling SLR cameras in 1959, previously controlled a sizable portion of the global camera industry. The decision to put new SLR camera development on hold occurred as compact mirrorless devices dominated the digital photography market.
According to the sources, Nikon will continue to sell existing products and provide customer support, and the corporation may resume development of SLR cameras in the future.
Mirrorless cameras, rather than SLRs, have been preferred by professional photographers covering sporting events such as the Tokyo Olympics in the summer of 2021 due to their reduced weight and capacity to take many consecutive photos.
Since the Nikon F series debuted in 1959, the business has continued to create new SLR models, even in recent decades as the majority of its goods have become digital. However, Nikon is said to have halted producing new SLR models with the release of its D6 series in June 2020.
