Nvidia will invest $1 billion to build a so-called green data center focused on artificial intelligence (AI) in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo León, Governor Samuel García announced, Kyrie Madry reported for Reuters.

García made the announcement in a video message posted on social media, flanked by Nvidia representatives. The investment comes as U.S. President Donald Trump has been pressuring tech companies to establish more data centers within the United States.
Energy-hungry data centers have been competing for limited electricity supply in many U.S. states, prompting consumer concerns about higher power rates as corporations ramp up AI operations.
The surge in demand has also renewed interest in nuclear power, with some industry leaders, including Bill Gates, advocating for small modular reactors (SMRs) that use less nuclear fuel and can be built more quickly.
