The partnership between Apple Inc. and OpenAI has become increasingly strained, according to people familiar with the matter, with the AI startup reportedly considering legal action over the companies’ agreement, Mark Gurman reported for Bloomberg News.

Sources said OpenAI lawyers are working with an outside law firm on several possible actions, including sending Apple a formal notice alleging breach of contract, though a lawsuit may not immediately follow.
OpenAI reportedly believed the partnership — which integrated ChatGPT into Apple software — would encourage more users to subscribe to its chatbot services.
The company also expected deeper integration across Apple applications and more prominent placement within the Siri assistant.
Instead, Apple’s use of OpenAI technology across its operating systems has remained relatively limited, and some AI features are reportedly difficult for users to locate.
“We have done everything from a product perspective,” an OpenAI executive told Bloomberg anonymously. “They have not, and worse, they haven’t even made an honest effort.”
