Outstanding Debt Hits New Record Of ₱14.5-T

The country's outstanding debt reached a new high of ₱14.5 trillion, according to the National Treasury.

Some ₱212.13 billion was added to the tally from a month earlier, the Treasury said in a statement, primarily due to net repayments of both domestic and external obligations, and the impact of a weaker peso.


Compared to the end of last year, outstanding debt was ₱1.062 trillion higher in October. From October 2022, when the outstanding debt was higher than the December count, the total increased by a lower ₱839.8 billion.

In percentage terms, debt rose by 1.49% from September, 7.91% from end-December 2022, and 6.16% from a year earlier. Domestic borrowings comprised the bulk or 68.38 percent of outstanding debt at ₱9.90 trillion.
