The two companies will collaborate to accelerate and expand P&G's digital manufacturing platform, as well as leverage the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) to bring products to consumers faster, increase customer satisfaction, and reduce costs.
"Together with Microsoft, P&G intends to make manufacturing smarter by enabling scalable predictive quality, predictive maintenance, controlled release, touchless operations and manufacturing sustainability optimization — which has not been done at this scale in the manufacturing space to date," said P&G CIO Vittorio Cretella.
The new collaboration, built on Microsoft Azure, allows P&G for the first time to digitize and integrate data from more than 100 manufacturing sites around the world, as well as improve its AI, machine learning, and edge computing services for real-time visibility.
P&G employees will be able to analyze production data and use artificial intelligence to make immediate decisions that will drive improvement and exponential impact. Access to this level of data on a large scale is uncommon in the consumer goods industry.
"Our partnership will further P&G's growth and business transformation through digital technology that seamlessly connects people, assets, workflow, and business processes that promote resilience," said Judson Althoff, Microsoft's chief commercial officer.
Data and technology have always been central to P&G's business strategy, and this first-of-its-kind co-innovation agreement will digitize and integrate data to improve quality, efficiency, and resource sustainability in order to deliver superior consumer experiences.
The new collaborative effort will include the following components: Allow for more effective use of data, AI capabilities, and digital twins technology; Improve the environmental sustainability efforts of the manufacturing industry; and, increase workforce productivity and efficiency.
