P&G Voluntarily Recalls Certain Old Spice And Secret Aerosol Anti-Spray Variants Due To Benzene

Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE: PG) has issued a voluntary recall of all lots of certain Old Spice and Secret Antiperspirant Aerosol products sold in Canada, listed by this Business Wire report, at the level of consumers due to the presence of benzene detected.

Risk Statement: Benzene is classified as a human carcinogen. Exposure to benzene can occur by inhalation, orally, and through the skin and can lead to cancers, including leukemia and cancer of the blood of the bone marrow, and life-threatening blood disorders.
Based on exposure modeling and cancer risk assessments published by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (IRIS database), daily exposure to benzene in recalled products at levels detected during our tests should not have adverse health consequences.
Benzene is ubiquitous in the environment. Humans around the world are exposed to it daily indoors and outdoors. exterior from several sources. To date, Procter & Gamble has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall and is proceeding with this recall as a precaution.
The recalled products were distributed nationally in Canada through retail locations and online. All other Old Spice and Secret products are not affected by this issue and can continue to be used as intended. This represents the vast majority of our products, including body sprays, solid sticks, cream sticks, as well as gel antiperspirants and deodorants.
The Procter & Gamble company has asked its retailers to remove the products from the shelves. Old Spice and Secret will also offer a refund to consumers who have purchased products affected by this recall. Consumers should stop using and properly dispose of affected aerosol products.
