Panasonic Debuts Rice Cooker That Measures Water, Grains

Japan's Panasonic Corp. announced recently the release of the world's first rice cooker that will automatically use just the right amount of water and rice grains, Naomichi Senoo reported for Mainichi Japan.

By merely placing water and no-wash rice into its tanks beforehand, the machine will fill the pot with the right amounts of each and start cooking with the press of a button. Users can select the amount of cooked rice they want, from 0.5 to 2 cups in 0.25-cup increments.

Users will also be able to control the device remotely by using a smartphone app. Because the machine only uses no-wash rice, it can begin the cooking process automatically, allowing people to enjoy freshly cooked rice the moment they arrive home.

The SR-AX1 will be available in Japan in early July for an estimated retail price of about 46,000 yen ($330).
