Daily exposure to the detected benzene level is not expected to result in adverse health consequences. However, in light of these findings, we have voluntarily issued a consumer-level recall. Consumers should stop using affected dry conditioner aerosol sprays and dry shampoo aerosol sprays and dispose of them properly.

Following recent reports of traces of benzene in certain aerosol products, we have initiated a review of our entire aerosol product line. While there is no benzene in our products, our review showed an unexpectedly high level of it from the propellants that vaporize the product.

Benzene has been detected in aerosol dry shampoos and aerosol dry conditioners. Daily exposure to the detected benzene level is not expected to result in adverse health consequences. However, in light of these findings and out of concern for caution, we have voluntarily issued a consumer recall of Pantene and Herbal Essences Dry Spray Shampoos and Dry Spray Conditioners.

Benzene is classified as a human carcinogen, a substance that could potentially cause cancer depending on the level and extent of exposure. Benzene is ubiquitous in the environment. Humans around the world are exposed to this substance every day, both indoors and outdoors, from a number of sources. Benzene can be absorbed to varying degrees by inhalation, through the skin, and by mouth.
