Together, they are diligently working to ensure the safety and well-being of the estimated 1.6 million passengers expected to travel during the long weekend, coinciding with the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
Undas, a cherished Filipino tradition, sees families and friends gather at cemeteries to remember and pay their respects to departed loved ones.
As a major transport hub, PITX is preparing for the surge in passengers, with safety as the utmost priority. In collaboration with the LTO, PITX is implementing proactive measures to guarantee the roadworthiness of Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) and the competence of their drivers.
These measures encompass rigorous vehicle inspections and random drug testing for 100 drivers, which led to the identification of five (5) drivers who tested positive.
These initiatives aim to provide passengers with the peace of mind that they will be traveling on safe, reliable vehicles driven by competent individuals.
Jason Salvador, Head of Corporate Affairs and Government Relations at PITX, stated, "The safety of our passengers is of paramount importance to us, especially during this period when travel volumes are exceptionally high. Our collaboration with the Land Transportation Office and the IACT underscores our commitment to the safety and security of all those who will be using PITX as their gateway to their Undas destinations."
In addition to the safety checks, a substantial anti-colorum campaign has been launched by the LTO in conjunction with the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (IACT).
This campaign aims to eliminate unauthorized, colorum, and out-of-line PUVs from operating, further enhancing passenger safety and ensuring that only legitimate PUVs ply the routes.
During the campaign, four (4) buses, two (2) UV express, two (2) traditional jeepneys, and one (1) shuttle were apprehended for operating out-of-line and unregistered vehicles.
Salvador added, "Our partnership with the LTO and IACT in this extensive anti-colorum campaign aligns with our goal of protecting passengers from individuals who engage in illegal and unregulated PUV operations. This coordinated effort will create a safer and more orderly travel experience for all."
PITX and the LTO are unwavering in their commitment to delivering a seamless and secure travel experience during the Undas season. Passengers can expect reliable and safe transportation, allowing them to focus on what truly matters during this solemn occasion.
