Poland Becomes EU’s Sixth-Largest Economy, Overtaking Belgium and Sweden

Poland's economy is gaining importance in Europe. In 2025, the country ranked sixth in the European Union by nominal GDP, accounting for almost 5% of the bloc's total output.

According to data from Eurostat, the European Union's statistical office, Poland's GDP at current prices amounted to €922.9 billion in 2025, Jan Bolanowski reported for Euronews.
This means Poland accounted for 4.9% of the EU economy. In terms of economic size, only Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands ranked above Poland.
Germany remained in first place, with GDP of €4.47 trillion, followed by France at €2.99 trillion, Italy at €2.26 trillion, Spain at €1.69 trillion and the Netherlands at €1.17 trillion.
Poland therefore ranked ahead of Belgium, Sweden, Ireland and Austria.
Poland is by far the largest economy in Central and Eastern Europe.
For comparison, Romania's GDP in 2025 stood at €380.1 billion, the Czech Republic's at €347.3 billion and Hungary's at €218.8 billion.
The combined GDP of the EU's 27 member states amounted to around €18.8 trillion in 2025. Germany accounted for the largest share, at 23.8%, followed by France at 15.9% and Italy at 12%.
