Police Recover Backpack Belonging To UnitedHealthcare CEO’s Killer

Investigators believe the suspect in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson has left New York City after finding the backpack he was reportedly carrying, Katie Mather, Dylan Stableford, and Kate Murphy reported for Yahoo News.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny confirmed surveillance footage showed the suspect riding a bike from the scene before taking a cab to the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Police later recovered the distinctive backpack in Central Park, along with clothing items, which have been sent for forensic testing.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said new surveillance images, released Thursday, show the suspect unmasked in a hostel on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Sources suggest a flirtatious exchange between the suspect and a female employee, who requested to see his smile, could help identify him.
