PSE Index Declines

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today failed to sustain its Monday rally declining by 26.85 points or 0.42 percent to 6,392.09 points after a brief upswing in the opening minutes.

Half of the sub-indices closed in contrasting fashions with the financials, down 1.30 percent, industrials, down by 0.31 percent, and holding firms down by 0.94 percent, while services rose by 0.81 percent, mining and oil, up by 0.96 percent, and property, up by 0.35 percent.
The market opened on an optimistic note hitting a high of 6,423.63 points but profit-taking took its bite and led the index astray to a low of 6,333.95 before regaining momentum.
Market bellwether SM Investments closed unchanged at P870 but not after it wobbled to a low of P842 after opening high at P873.50.
Indications of a negative sentiment showed at the opening though as BDO Unibank, which emerged as the most active stock with P671.5 million in trades, opened 10 centavos lower from its Monday close of P134 and closed at its lowest, P129.
Second most active Converge had trades of P631 million as it surged by 8.18 percent to P15.08, up by P1.14. SM Prime had trades of P479 million as it closed 15 centavos lower to P34.80. Value turnover was at P7.229 billion, P1.2 billion higher than average with 92 gainers, 82 losers, and 49 shares unchanged.
Among the gainers in the Top 20 stocks were Ayala Land up 50 centavos to P27.80, ICTSI up P3.70 to P187.50, Bank of PI, up 95 centavos to P96.60, Semirara Mining, up 25 centavos to P30.20, ACEN Corp, up 55 centavos to P7, Security Bank, up P1.05 to P90.05, and Robinsons Retail, up 50 centavos to P60.
The losers were PLDT, down P8 to P1,552, Monde Nissin down 20 centavos to p12, Universal Robina, down P1.10 to P128.70, Aboitiz Equity down, P2.45 to P55.25, Metrobank, down a peso to P51, Jollibee Foods, down P5 to P243, and GT Capital down 80 centavos to P407.
