PSE Index Declines

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today declined on profit-taking with blue chips going up in early trading then going downhill to close at 6,709.34 points, down by 47.35 points or 0.70 percent.

Advancing a tad higher than Tuesday's close, the index rose by more than 70 points to 6,774.47 points before declining on a sell-down and closing at its lowest point but still within its milestone level.
Market bellwether SM Investments emerged as top-traded stock with P630 million as it closed P3.50 lower to P900 after a volatile run with a high of P911 and a low of P897. ICTSI was the second most active stock with P516 million as it closed P3 lower to P200 with a low of P197.20.
Globe Telecom also sprinted in the early going to a high of P2,138 after opening at P2,116 and then declined to as low as P2,048 on profit-taking before recovering at the close. BDO Unibank went down a peso to P109.90 while PLDT declined by P13 to P1,420, and Metro Pacific lost by 4 centavos to P3.64.
Financials lost 1.53 percent, holding firms went down by 0.29 percent, services, by 0.59 percent, and property by 1.49 percent, On the other hand, mining and oil rose by 0.28 percent, and industrials by 0.38 percent.
Value turnover reached P7.8 billion while there were 89 gainers, 101 losers, and 48 shares unchanged.
Among the gainers were Converge which closed 20 centavos higher to P18.20 though it had a high of P18.38 and a low of p17.80, Jollibee Foods, up by 60 centavos to P241.60, Megawide, up by 9.51 percent to P3.34, a gain of 29 centavos, Ayala Corp, up by P4.50 to P707.50, Monde, up by 66 centavos to P12.96, GT Capital, up by P4.80 to P445.40, Robinsons Land, up 2 centavos to P15.02, and Bloomberry, up 30 centavos to P9.20.
The losers were Bank of PI, which went down by P3.20 to P101.30, ACEN Corp. down by 29 centavos to P7.01, Meralco, down by P9.80 to P296.20, SM Prime, down a peso to P36.25, and JG Summit down by P1.10 to P55.10.
