PSE Index Declines

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today declined by 40.47 points or 0.55 percent to 7,342,37 points a bit higher than its support level as profit-taking took hold with tomorrow's trading performance seen to be closely watched to determine if the bullish streak holds.

Systems Grid, the listed corporate vehicle of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, emerged as the most active stock with trades of P1.187 billion as it closed 9.93 percent higher to P15.94.

But, it actually hit a high of P16.02 after going down to as low as P14.72. Monde and AC Energy were the second and third most active stock as they also fell under investors cashing in their gains.

Monde and Acen, which are both debuting on the Morgan Stanley composite index, also came under profit-taking mode as they traded P981 million and P501 million, respectively.

Monde closed at P17.38 up by 42 centavos but had price points of P17.60 and P17.12 while Acen gained 2 centavos to P12 and with price points of P12.20 and P11.62.

Value turnover amounted to P7.955 billion with 71 gainers, 124 losers, and 42 shares unchanged, including market bellwether SM Investments, which closed at P990. Also unchanged was SM Prime at P36.10. Ayala Land lost P1.20 to P6.75.

Only the holding firm posted a gain of 0.01 percent while the other sub-indices all declined: financials by 0.95 percent, industrials by 059 percent, services by 0.57 percent, mining and oil by 3.24 percent, and property by 1.11 percent.

AllDay lost 2 centavos to P0.80 while Converge was up 45 centavos to P35.95. PLDT gained a peso to P1,700 but Globe declined by P50 to P3,380. Megaworld was up by 22 centavos to P18.24 while Jollibee lost P3.40 to P249.60.
