PSE Index Down A Bit

The Philippine Stock Exchange index today closed a tad lower at 6,270.80 points, down 11.44 points or 0.18 percent on profit-taking after going up a milestone level in the early going.

Gainers were ahead of losers 103 to 81 with 40 shares unchanged and there were four sub-indices up as against two down but the losing index - heavy holding firms and the decline in property overshadowed the rise in financials of 0.01 percent, industrials of 0.19 percent, services of 0.21 percent and mining and oil of 2.46 percent.


The market started strong and hit a high of 6,351.77 points before going down on profit taking dropping almost 100 points before nosing up a bit at the close.



Semirara Mining led the most active stocks with P472 million in trades as it powered to a 3.69 percent increase to P40.70, up by P1.45, followed by Ayala Land which gained 3.28 percent or 80 centavos to P25.20 on trades of P328 million, and BDO Unibank up by 50 centavos to P118 on trades of P325 million.


Market bellwether SM Investments lost P8 to P788 while ICTSI lost P4 to P182, Metrobank down by 5 centavos to P45.65, Bank of PI down by 40 centavos to P89, SM Prime down by P1.10 to P36.75, and Meralco down by P12.40 to P357.

Value turnover remained muted at P5.03 billion on the continuing uncertainty with many investors doing day trades or selling on gains.


Among the gainers were DMCI, up 31 centavos to P9.31, Converge up 60 centavos to P20.85, AC Energy up 15 centavos to P8.40, Jollibee up P2.60 to P212.80 and Emperador up 16 centavos to P18.92.
