The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today declined, closing at its lowest, 6,575.67, down by 7.19 points or 0.11 percent after a sell-down as it zigzagged to a high of 6,633.63 points with investors pocketing their gains.

Only mining and oil and property posted gains with the Financials losing 0.58 percent, industrials down by 0.44 percent, holding firms down by 0.08 percent, and services losing 0.03 percent.
Mining and oil was up by 0.12 percent and property was up by 0.70 percent. Value turnover amounted to P5.47 billion, with 90 gainers 74 losers, and 51 shares unchanged.
Investors are opting to stay on the sidelines with the expected interest rate hike in the US to tame the inflation rate that is seen to result in a similar increase in the country that follows the big 75 basis point rise made by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas ahead of its policy setting month.
Market bellwether SM Investments went up to P877 but closed at its lowest on cue from the sell-down, finishing the day at P850, down by P9.50 or 1.11 percent on trades of P295 million, the sixth most active stock.
Emerging most active was SM Prime which gained 45 centavos to P36.50 with trades of P467 million while Ayala Land also posted a 20 centavo rise to P28.60, the third most active with P357 million in trades.
Ayala Corp went up by P18 to P748 while San Miguel also rose by 3.16 percent or P3 to P98. Other gainers were Globe Telecom up P8 to P2,178, Jollibee Foods up P2.60 to P247.40, Emperador up 25 centavos to P20.55, Bank of PI up 20 centavos to P97, Converge up 28 centavos to P17.18, and Metrobank up 20 centavos to P52.55.
Among the losers were BDO Unibank, down P2.60 to P122.50, Solar Philippines, down 1 centavo to P1.50, PLDT down P8 to P1,652, Universal Robina down P2 to P123.50, ICTSI down 70 centavos to P185, Megaworld REIT down 10 centavos to P15.10, and Robinsons Land down 60 centavos to P18.60.
