PSE Index Down Fractionally

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today went down fractionally on profit-taking after three sub-indices clambered back up to recover earlier losses and close just down by 4.99 points or 0.08 percent to 6,593.39 points.

Financials, industrials, and holding firms rallied to go up at the close, joining mining and oil in a positive finish after earlier flashing a loss until after the resumption of trading following market recess.


But the big losses in property and services accounted for the PSE index's decline. Financials rose by 0.16 percent, industrials by 0.29 percent, and holding firms by 0.14 percent, while services went down by 0.33 percent and property by 0.63 percent.



BDO Unibank was again the most active stock with trades of P306 million as it closed up by 20 centavos, while Bank of PI, the second most active, was unchanged at P109.50 with trades of P283 million. Ayala Land declined by 30 centavos to P26.35 with trades of P258 million.


Value turnover remained below average at p5. 2 billion showing investors still shunning risks. There were 79 gainers, 106 losers, and 52 shares unchanged.

Among the gainers were Metro Pacific, up by 12 centavos to P4.08, a gain of 3.03 percent, ICTSI, up by a peso to P28, Globe Telecom, up a peso to P1,723, EEI Corp, up by 46 centavos to P4.86, Robinsons Land, up by 10 centavos to P14.06, Meralco, up by P1.80 to P323.20, Monde Nissin, up by 25 centavos to P9.60, and Ayala Corp, up by P5 to P648.

The losers among the top 20 stocks were Jollibee Foods, down by a peso to P220, JG Summit, down 40 centavos to P49.90, PLDT, down P4 to P1,230, DMCI Holdings, down 18 centavos to P10.02, GT Capital, down 20 centavos to P481.80, and SM Prime, down 25 centavos to P33.70.


Universal Robina was unchanged at P146, Metrobank at P60, and Market bellwether SM Investments at P900.
