PSE Index Hits New Bottom

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today hit a new bottom as the global economy remains rattled by the pronouncement of the US Fed to remain hawkish in its interest rate postings, resulting in a hefty decline of 3.26 percent to 5,741.07 points, down by 193.18 points.

All of the sub-indices posted big declines for the first time with the holding firms down by 4.03 percent, Financials down by 1.19 percent, industrials down by 2.22 percent, services by 3.35 percent, mining and oil by 1.13 percent, and property by 3.57 percent.


Port operator ICTSI skidded by a huge 10.15 percent today as investors unloaded their shares in a gloomy outlook for the economy. ICTSI went down by P17.70 to P156.60 with trades of P1.14 billion, followed by SM Prime, which lost P1.80 or 5.64 percent to 30.10 with trades of P653 million, then by Ayala Land, which closed at P22.85, down by 25 centavos or 1 percent with trades of P472.5 million.



Only two shares, Universal Robina and AbaCore Holdings bucked the sell down with the former rising by P2 to P114, up by 1.79 percent with trades of P223.5 million, and the latter up by 1 centavo to P2.23 with trades of P87 million.


Value turnover amounted to p6. 69 billion with 51 gainers, 154 losers, and 37 shares unchanged. Market bellwether SM Investments lost p35 to p725, a big loss of 4.61 percent.

BDO Unibank went down by P2.60 to P111.50, Bank of PI lost 50 centavos to P89.50, Metrobank was down by 30 centavos to P48.50, GT Capital, down by 40 centavos to P415.60, Converge lost P1.06 to P13.10, Ayala Corp, down by P28 to P616, Meralco, down by P25.60 to P263, Globe Telecom, down by P54 to P2,030, and PLDT, down by a peso to P1,508.


ACEN Corp was also down by 10 centavos to P5.60, Jollibee Foods, down by P5 to P229, Monde, down by 38 centavos to P12.18, Semirara Mining, down by 30 centavos to P39, and Metro Pacific, down by 12 centavos to P3.33.
