PSE Index In Hefty Gain

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today posted a hefty gain on profit-taking, clambering back up to a new milestone level as inflation worries begin to fade with the huge earnings listed shares reported, especially of banking issues, to close at 6,520.44 points, up by 74.09 points or 1.15 percent.

BDO Unibank emerged as the most active stock with trades of P572 million as it rose by a huge 4.25 percent to P135, up by P5.50 after it disclosed earnings of P16.5 billion for the first quarter, an increase of 40 percent to shepherd the financials to surge to 2.51 percent, the biggest among the five sub-indices that gained in today's trading.
ICTSI was the second most active stock with P406 million as it rose by P3.60 or 1.71 percent to P213.60. In third was Union Bank, which posted a 10-centavo loss to P84.50 on trades of P246 million.
Foreign investors were net buyers at P580 million although value turnover remained muted at just P3.8 billion, lower by P2.2 billion than the average daily trades. There were 94 gainers, 88 losers, and 41 shares unchanged.
Industrials rose by 0.61 percent, holding firms by 0.69 percent, services by 0.71 percent, and property by 0.90 percent. Mining and oil index lost 1.33 percent.
Market bellwether SM Investments was unchanged at P900. Also unchanged was Abacore Holdings at P2.46 and Semirara Mining at P28. Property giants Ayala Land and SM Prime posted gains with the former rising by 5 centavos to P26.20, and the latter by a bigger gain of 50 centavos to P33.50.
Among the losers were Globe Telecom down by P2 to P1,783, GT Capital down by 40 centavos to P480, Jollibee Foods down by P2.60 to P217.20, and PLDT down by P2 to P1,269., up by 6 centavos to P7.12, Ayala Corp up by P6 to P638.50, JG Summit, up by 40 centavos to 49.25, Meralco, up by P2.20 to P321, and Universal Robina, up by P4.10 to P145.
Among the losers were Globe Telecom, down by P2 to P1,783, GT Capital, down by 40 centavos to P480, Jollibee Foods, down by P2.60 to P217.20, and PLDT down by P2 to P1,269.
