PSE Index Jumps 1.46% as Peso Strengthens

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index rose on Thursday, November 5, gaining 83.22 points, or 1.46%, to close at 5,778.14, as the peso strengthened against the U.S. dollar.

The country's gross international reserves (GIR) declined to approximately $99.5 billion at the end of September from $104.8 billion in August, a reduction of about $5.4 billion.
The BSP attributed the decline to its foreign exchange operations, government withdrawals for debt service and valuation adjustments, among other factors. All sectoral indices advanced except Financials, which declined 1.04%.
