PSE Index Recovers

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today recovered but closed stuck at milestone level. Although flickering for a brief moment and able to upswing higher, it still closed lower at 6,488.51 points, a slight gain of 16.47 points or 0.25 percent.

Investors were in vacation mode with the five-day long weekend reflected in the low value turnover of just P3.38 billion with 93 gainers, 71 losers, and 59 shares unchanged.


Save for the mining and oil sub-index, which declined by a hefty 2.12 percent, all the others posted anemic gains of sub-one percent rises. Financials went up by 0.39 percent, industrials by 0.02 percent, holding firms by 0.81 percent, services by 0.14 percent, and property by 0.02 percent.



Semirara accounted for the big loss in mining and oil as it lost by a huge 9.98 percent to P29.730, down by P3.25 to overwhelm the gains in Apex Mining of 9 centavos to P2.29, and Philex Mining, which went up by 11 centavos to P3.28.


BDO Unibank was the most active with trades of P616 million as it lost 80 centavos to P124.20 followed by Bank of PI with trades of P306 million as it went up by P2.50 to P101.60.

The third most active stock was Ayala Land which went up by 35 centavos to P27.70 on trades of P262 million.


Among the gainers were market bellwether SM Investments, which went up byP26 to P896, up by 2.99 percent, PLDT, up by a peso to P1.281, Monde Nissin, up by 10 centavos to P9.22, DM Consunji, up by 18 centavos to P11.38, Converge, up by 10 centavos to P12.76, Metro Pacific, up 2 centavos to P3.70, and Wilcon Depot, up by P6.30 to P28.55.


Market & economy: Market economist in suit and tie reading reports and analysing charts in the office located in the financial district.

ICTSI, GT Capital, and Emperador were all unchanged with respective closing prices of P210, P510, and P20.95.


The losers were SM Prime, down by 25 centavos to P33.50, Universal Robina, down by 50 centavos to P141, Jollibee Foods, down by P3 to P223, and AgriNurture, down by 28 centavos to P7.25.
