PSE Index Rises Slightly

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today posted a small rise, with the financials accounting for much of the increase as trading remained uneventful, foreigners still unconvinced about the local market, to close with just an 8.64-point gain or 0.13 percent to 6,511.49 points with the services and mining sub-indices showing declines.

BDO Unibank led the charge with a P1.90 gain to P138.90 while Metrobank went up by 40 centavos to P56.20 and Security Bank up 35 centavos to P82.10 to push the financials to a 1.09 percent increase in a day that saw the index in a volatile swing from a high of 6,550.25 points to a low of 6,507 points.



Also up were the industrials, up 0.25 percent, the holding firms up by 0.17 percent and property up by 0.75 percent. The services lost 1.88 percent and mining and oil was down by 0.05 percent.


SM Prime emerged the most active with P593 million in trades as it added 50 centavos to close at P33.80 followed by First Holdings with P307 million as it gained 20 centavos to P60.30, while market bellwether SM Investments went down by P3 to P916 on trades of P294 million.


Total value turnover was 11.5 percent higher than average at P6.7 billion with 79 gainers, 94 losers, and 51 shares unchanged.

Ayala Land and Jollibee Foods were both unchanged respectively closing at P25.10 and P238.60 while Metro Pacific lost 5 centavos to P4.74. Greenergy Holdings and AgriNurture were both down with identical one-centavo losses to P1.27 and P7.08.


Bloomberry gained 4 centavos to P11 while Universal Robina was up by a peso to P139. ICTSI lost P8.80 to P200.20, while Ayala Corp gained P10 to P640.

Emperador was down by 5 centavos to P21.40 while PLDT lost P25 to P1,305. Puregold and Century Pacific were down closing respectively at P29.60, a loss of 5 centavos, and P25, also down by 5 centavos.
