PSE Index Slightly Up

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today slightly went up after it gyrated between a gain and a loss as profit taking set in, pulling down in its wake the shares that have surged in price the past weeks to close at 7,419.10 points, up by 17.94 points or 0.24 percent.

Monde emerged again as the top traded stock with P1.82 billion in transactions that saw its price see-saw between a high of P19.02 and a low of P17.92 before nosing up to P18.02, down by 96 centavos.


Converge and AC Energy also had the same trading pattern as investors cashed in their gains with the former down by 50 centavos to P31.50 although it had low and high price points of P31.20 and P32.35 while the latter ranged between P12.06 and P11.84 its closing price for a loss of 20 centavos.



The holding and property sub indices saved the day for the index which had its financials down by 0.26 percent, industrials by 0.65 percent, services by 0.17 percent and mining and oil by 0.22 percent. The holding firms rose by 0.38 percent and the property sector by 1.17 percent.


Value turnover amounted to P8.62 billion with 93 losers, 88 gainers and 53 shares unchanged. Market bellwether SM Investments went up by P3 to P988 although it hit a high of P991 and a low of P979. PLDT gained P25 to P1,750 while Globe was unchanged at P3,600. Synergy lost 62 centavos while Keepers gained 4 centavos to P1.68.

Among the gainers were Jollibee, up by 3.40 to P248, Bank of PI, up by P1.50 to P90.90 and Ayala Land, up by25 centavos to P36.90. The losers included ICTSI down by P2.90 to P195.10, Metrobank, down by 45 centavos to P51.55 and Universal Robina, down by 70 centavos to P130.80
