PSE Index Slightly Up

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today posted a fractional gain in another lackluster trading as investors still shun the market with value turnover just half of average, to close at 6,379.72 points, up by 0.69 points or 0.01 percent.

Financials rose by 0.50 percent, services by 0.22 percent and property by 0.32 percent, while the holding firms lost 0.47 percent, industrials, by 0.21 percent, and mining and oil by 0.45 percent.
Value turnover was more than half below average at P2.8 billion with 72 gainers, 108 losers and 48 shares unchanged. Market bellwether SM Investments emerged as the most active with P251 million in trades as it went down by P2.50 to P898.
The market is seen to continue to be in the doldrums with projections for a possible interest rate hike by the US Fed and the expected reaction from the Bangko Sentral. Meanwhile, investors are particularly choosy with bargain hunters lurking in the corner.
There were only six gainers among the top 20 active stocks while two others were unchanged.
Globe Telecom rose by P32 to P1,842, the third most active stock with trades of P190 million. Bank of PI went up by P2.70 to P108. 60, ICTSI gained P2 to P200.40, Ayala Land, up by 25 centavos to P24.25, Digiplus Interactive gained 27 centavos to P4.10 and Emperador was up by 5 centavos to P21.
SM Prime and PLDT were unchanged at P31.90 and P1,300, respectively.
The losers were BDO Unibank, down by 30 centavos to P135 60 on trades of P210 million, the second most active, Metro Pacific, down by 4 centavos to P4.92, Ayala Corp, down p3 to P602, Jollibee Foods, down P4.20 to P236, and Universal Robina was down 20 centavos to P137.30.
The other red stocks were JG Summit, down P1.30 to P43.65, Monde Nissin, down 2 centavos to P8.18, Cosco Capital, down 19 centavos to P5.15, Metrobank, down 70 centavos to P54, Greenergy Holdings, down 2 centavos to P0.66, and Bloombery, down 30 centavos to P10.52.
