PSE Index Still Down

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today remained the same, still down at 5,932.19 points, lower by 2.08 points or 0.03 percent as investors sold their shares on small rises reflecting the continued fear on the global economic front.

Half of the sub-indices were down with shareholders cashing in their gains and the other half up on bargain hunting.


Financials declined by 0.44 percent, mining and oil down by 0.70 percent and property by 0.66 percent while holding firms rose by 0.15 percent, industrials by 0.53 percent and services by 0.23 percent. Market bellwether SM Investments was unchanged at P760 on trades of P75.6 million.



Value turnover remained low on negative sentiments with trades of just P4.1 billion. There were 84 gainers 96 losers and 44 shares unchanged.


San Miguel was the most active stock with P569 million in trades with its share price unchanged at P101 followed by port operator ICTSI, which posted a gain of P1.60 to P177.60 on trades of P280 million, and Bank of PI, which went up by P1.70 to P93 on trades of P274 million.


Market & economy: Market economist in suit and tie reading reports and analysing charts in the office located in the financial district.

The losers among the most active stocks were BDO Unibank, down by P2 to P112.40, GT Capital, down by P13 to P400, Jollibee Foods, down by P3.80 to P231, SM Prime, down by 10 centavos to P31.45, Ayala Land, down by 40 centavos to P23.40, AbaCore Holdings, down by 3 centavos to P2.21, PLDT, down by P20 to P1,510, Globe Telecom, down by P40 to P2,160, and Eagle Cement, down 18 centavos to P19.12.


The gainers were Universal Robina, up 50 centavos to P110.50, Converge, up 60 centavos to P13, Meralco, up P5.20 to P295.40, Semirara Mining, up 15 centavos to P40.40, Emperador, up 16 centavos to P19.72, and Puregold, up 30 centavos to P27.
