PSE Index Surges Early, Ends Higher on Strong Foreign Buying

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index surged in early trading on Thursday before cooling at the close due to profit-taking, but still finished 49.01 points, or 0.78%, higher at 6,353.04.

Market favorite ICTSI, along with market bellwether SM Investments, rallied at the opening. ICTSI climbed to an intraday high of ₱1,014 before retreating to close at ₱980, down 0.20%.
The early rally helped lift the PSE index to an intraday high of 6,436.11.
SM Investments, meanwhile, gained 1.78% to close at ₱599.50, after reaching an intraday high of ₱605 as investors locked in profits.
Sectoral indices ended mostly higher. The services index edged up 0.05%, financials rose 0.18%, industrial gained 0.19%, property advanced 1.45%, and holding firms climbed 2.72%.
Ayala Corp. and GT Capital Holdings posted gains of 5.35% to ₱512 and 2.00% to ₱500, respectively, as investors positioned themselves amid improving economic prospects and renewed hopes for another ceasefire attempt in the Middle East.
Value turnover reached ₱7.44 billion, while market breadth remained positive and foreign investors were net buyers.
Advancers outnumbered decliners, 117 to 75, with 56 issues unchanged. Total foreign trades amounted to ₱8.01 billion, resulting in net foreign buying of ₱657 million, with foreign buying at ₱4.334 billion and foreign selling at ₱3.657 billion.
