PSE Index Surges To A New Year High

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index surged to a new year high closing 45.45 points higher or 0.62 percent to 7,441.67 points, eclipsing its old 52-week high by 19 points in trading that saw share prices posting new highs.

Value turnover was a hefty P9.49 billion with 103 gainers and 87 losers and 48 shares unchanged as the market welcomed the projected easing of quarantine alert for metro manila plus that means a reenergized economy.
The financials were up by 0.58 percent, industrials by 0.95 percent, holding firms by 0.45 percent, services by 1.9 percent, and mining and oil by 0.56 percent. The property sub-index was the lone loser at minus 0.11 percent.
Market bellwether SM Investments gained P9.50 to P984 while Bank of PI and Metrobank. posted gains of P85 centavos to P95.80 and P1.80 to P52.10, respectively. BDO Unibank, however, dropped by a peso to P132.
Globe emerged as the most active stock with trades of P835 million with its share price closing at P3,422, up by P122 on speculation over the possible listing of GCash, its fintech subsidiary. PLDT was unchanged at P1,640.
Jollibee Foods rose by P11.20 or 4.51 percent on value turnover of P387 million while Monde was the second most active stock with trades of P649 million as it advanced by 46 centavos to P16.88.
