PSE Index Sustains Rise

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today closed a bit high after a volatile run at 5,895.64 points, up 42.01 or 0.72 percent.

Market bellwether SM Investments provided the backdrop to the market's performance as bargain hunters pushed the share price to its highest at the close after hitting a low of P755.50.
It closed at P788.50, a gain of P24.50. Ayala Land emerged as the most active stock with a 10 centavo rise to P22.80 on trades of P245 million. Port operator ICTSI was up by P3 to P178 with P223 million in trades, followed by BDO Unibank, up by P2 to P118 with trades of P190 million.
Only the mining and oil index closed lower, declining by 0.58 percent, while the rest of the sub-indices posted minimal gains of below 1 percent.
Services rose by 0.97 percent, holding firms by 0.84 percent, Financials by 0.62 percent industrials by 0.33 percent, and property by 0.35 percent. Value turnover remained below average at P3.65 billion with 71 gainers, 101 losers, and 41 shares unchanged.
There were five shares unchanged among the Top 20 active stocks: Eagle Cement at P19, Bank of PI at P92, Emperador at P19.70, Semirara Mining at P39.30, and Monde at P11.70. Converge was up by 4 centavos to P12.52, PLDT by P18 to P1,438, SM Prime up 20 centavos to P31.40, GT Cap up P4.80 to P395, and Metrobank by 45 centavos P49.15.
The losers were Jollibee Foods, down P1.40 to P231.60, Aboitiz Equity, down 50 centavos to P56.30, Globe Telecom, down 50 centavos to P2,170, Ayala Corp, down P13 to P597, and Universal Robina down P1.10 to P108.10.
