The Philippine Stock Exchange index today posted a muted rise of 47.76 points or 0.72 percent to 6,645.52 points, its highest for the day as investors rushed to buy shares before the close.

Value turnover was still at an average of P6.05 billion with 96 gainers against 90 losers with 44 shares unchanged due to the lack of investor sentiment, though the Dow Jones surged on the projections that recession is far off as the US economy remained healthy.
Mining and oil and the property sub-indices however posted losses of 1.18 percent and 0.58 percent while services gained the most at 1.71 percent, followed by industrials, up 1.53 percent, financials by 0.93 percent, and holding firms by 0.14 percent.
Converge emerged as the most active stock with P820.5 million as it gained 55 centavos to P28.05 followed by SM Prime with P549 million, which closed 30 centavos lower to P36.70, then Monde, which gained 68 centavos to P16.46.
Market bellwether SM Investments lost P12 to P835 while Ayala Land went down by 25 centavos to P28.05, Jollibee up by P2.60 to P213, and Bank of PI up by 70 centavos to P97.
Meralco gained P20 to P360, Metrobank up P1.75 to P52.75, ICTSI up by P9.40 to P220, while Semirara lost P1.10 to P32.40, Solar Philippines down by 1 centavos to P1.79 and GT Capital unchanged at P500.
