PSE Index Up A Bit

The Philippine Stock Exchange today rose a bit, up by 9.92 points or 0.16 percent to 6,165.35 points in thin trades as the uncertainty over the global economy remained the same.

Five of the six sub-indices posted small gains with the industrials posting the lone loss, declining by 0.63 percent. The financials rose by 0.63 percent, holding firms by 0.03 percent, services by 0.76 percent, mining and oil by 0.78 percent, and property by 0.10 percent.

Value turnover amounted to just P3.7 billion with 94 gainers, 83 losers, and 48 shares unchanged as investors stayed on the sidelines for the lack of compelling economic news as the Ukraine crisis continued.

The market opened a tad higher from Thursday's close and then went on a roller coaster ride within a 70-point range to a low of 6,148.43 points before bargain hunters swooped in to nudge the index higher.

BDO Unibank emerged as the most active stock with trades of p322 million as it rose by P1.60 to P112.10 followed by market bellwether SM Investments with trades of P228 million closing down by P12 to P770.

SM hit a low of P769 and a high of P786. Semirara Mining was up by a peso to P36 on trades of P225 million.

Among the gainers were Ayala Land, up 50 centavos to p26, Ayala Corp. up P25 to P625, Jollibee up P1.40 to P205, ICTSI up P7 to P191, Bank of PI up P1.20 to P86, Wilcon Depot up 20 centavos to P24, and Solar Philippines up 4 centavos to P1.68.

The losers were Meralco down P7 to P353, PLDT down P10 to P1,670, Converge down 20 centavos to P20.95, Universal Robina down P2 to P109, Security Bank down P4.10 to P87.30, Globe down P88 to P2,180, Metro Pacific down 7 centavos to P3.46, SM Prime down 25 centavos to P36.30, and AC Energy down 10 centavos to P7.94.
