PSE Index Up A Bit

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today closed a tad higher as investors cashed in their gains, share prices going up then skidding later on as volatility continued in the market, to close with a smallish gain of 15.32 points or 0.23 percent to 6,622.45.

Industrials, holding firms, and services closed fractionally higher while mining and oil rose by 1.16 percent and 1.02 percent. The financials went down by 0.26 percent. The industrials went up by 0.06 percent, holding firms by 0.007 percent, and services by 0.35 percent.


Volatility in the market continued with the most active stock Globe Telecom hitting a high of P1,834 then sinking to a low of P1,800 before recovering to P1,807 at the close on trades of P606 million.



The second most active stock with trades of P545 million was BDO Unibank which rose by P1 to P125 and the third most active stock was Ayala Land which was unchanged at P28.65 on trades of P413 million.


Market bellwether SM Investments went up by P1.50 to P890.50 but it had a high of P911 and a low of P884.50. Even Metro Pacific went through a volatile trade, rising by as high as P4.29 and a low of P4.17 before closing at P4.19, a centavo higher.

Among the gainers were Bank of PI, up by 10 centavos to P104.10, ICTSI, up by P1.10 to P199.90, Emperador, up 5 centavos to P20.90, Figaro Coffee, up 2 centavos to P1.00, PLDT up P7 to P1,325, Robinsons Land, up 12 centavos to P15, and Union Bank up P2.35 to P90.


Value turnover was again above average with P7.07 billion with 96 gainers, 86 losers, and 58 shares unchanged.

Among the losers were Metrobank, down P2.55 to P58.80, Megaworld, down 2 centavos to P1.98, Ayala Corp, down P23 to P636, Universal Robina, down 40 centavos to P136, and Jollibee Foods down P7 to P231.
