PSE Index Up a Bit

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index edged up slightly Thursday, ending fractionally higher by 9.09 points, or 0.14 percent, to close at 6,382.04 points, near its intraday low, amid renewed profit-taking.

Sectoral indices finished mixed. Financials slipped 0.23 percent, industrials fell 0.38 percent, and mining and oil declined 1.09 percent.


Services, however, gained 0.57 percent, holding firms rose 0.47 percent, and property advanced 0.18 percent.


The market initially gained traction and climbed to an intraday high of 6,412.64 points before investors began pocketing gains, dragging the index down toward its session low.



Metrobank closed down 0.88 percent to P72, after reaching a high of P73.30, while Bank of the Philippine Islands declined 0.43 percent to P116.20, despite touching an intraday high of P117.50.


ICTSI was once again the most active stock, with P683 million in trades, rising 0.30 percent to P660.50.


Market bellwether SM Investments ended unchanged at P700.



Globe Telecom continued its advance, closing at P1,726, up 2.86 percent. DigiPlus and ACEN Corp. also gained, rising 1.15 percent to P14.94 and 3.32 percent to P2.80, respectively.


Total value turnover reached P6.69 billion, while foreign trades amounted to P6.8 billion, resulting in net foreign selling of P22.6 million.


Foreign buying totaled P3.431 billion against foreign selling of P3.454 billion.



There were 98 gainers, 90 losers, and 73 unchanged stocks, including Union Bank, PSE, Axelum, AREIT, RTI, and AgriNurture.


Among the gainers were Apex Mining, Alternergy, Puregold, Bloomberry, Cebu Air, Robinsons Land, San Miguel, and Ayala Corp., while decliners included Aboitiz Power, Converge, Ayala Land, Megawide, Jollibee Foods, Universal Robina, and GT Capital.
