PSE Index Up Anew

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today marched to a new high at 6,606.94 points, up by 76.43 points or 1.17 percent for a new milestone level after it went two levels below to 6,480.62 points on profit-taking as investors cheered the projections for better fourth-quarter earnings of corporates, plus with foreign funds coming in as the Christmas rally phenomenon kicks in.

Market bellwether SM Investments nudged the index beyond another resistance level as it continued its upward climb to a new high of P910 for a P16 gain or 1.7 percent with trades of P688 million to emerge as the most active stock.
It was followed by BDO Unibank with trades of P 674 million as it lost P1.30 to P131.50. Port operator ICTSI was the third most active with trades of P527 million as it also rose by P1.30 to P185.
Property giants Ayala Land and SM Prime posted gains of 10 centavos to P29.40 and 95 centavos to P35.95 respectively to push the property sub-index to a hefty 1.55 percent gain.
Only the industrials went down, losing 0.23 percent while the financials rose by 1.27 percent, holding firms by 1.34 percent, services by 1.37 percent, and mining and oil by 0.40 percent.
Value turnover amounted to P7.13 billion while there were 100 gainers, 69 losers, and 42 shares unchanged. GT Capital was the day's biggest gainer as it went up by 6.41 percent finishing the day at P458, up by P27.60.
Bank of PI rose by 3.13 percent to P102.10, up by P3.10 while Metrobank gained P1.95 or 3.6 percent to P-56.15. Security bank was down by 75 centavos to P96, Semirara Mining was down by 70 centavos to P30.65 while DNL rose by 17 centavos to P7.85.
Meralco lost P5.20 to P284, Puregold by 5 centavos to P34.80, Acen Corp by 6 centavos to P7.05, and Jollibee Foods by P2 to P252 while Ayala Corp was unchanged at P695.
Converge was up by 30 centavos to P16.30, Universal Robina by 20 centavos to P133, Emperador by 6 centavos to P19.82, Aboitiz Equity up by 60 centavos to P56.50, and Wilcon was up by 55 centavos to P32.50.
