PSE Index Up Anew

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index rose today anew and seemed poised to a flickering Christmas rally as it bucked the negative sentiment in the Dow Jones with a 44.38 point or 0.62 percent rise to 7,241.99 points.

Value turnover was above average at p7.599 billion with profit-takers denying a higher index that as a result had less gainers at 85 against losers of 97 with 56 shares unchanged.
Market bellwether SM Investments hit a high of p972 after dropping to a low of p941 and closed at p968, up p23.50 on trades of p201 million.
Holding firms and the financials carried the day for PSE uptick with respective rises of 1.50 percent and 1.32 percent as the other sub-indices posted declines: industrials, down by 0.38 percent, services, by 0.51 percent, mining and oil by 0.40 percent, and property by 0.22 percent.
Monde emerged as the most active stock with trades of p863 million as it closed 2 centavos lower though it had a high of p16.54 and a low of p16.08. BDO Unibank and Metrobank were the second and third active stocks with trades of p507 million and p406 million. BDO advanced by P2.50 to p127 while Metrobank gained p1.26 to p52.16.
Among the losers were AC Energy down 28 centavos to P10.60, Wilcon Depot, down p1.10 to p32.20, SM Prime, down 10 centavos to p35.50, and all day by 5 centavos to p0.58. Jollibee went up by 20 centavos to p228, Globe, up by p18 to P3,418, Ayala Corp, up by p26 to p875.
