Total turnover amounted to P5.09 billion, which while still P1 billion shy of the average provides a flickering optimism to the market as it picked up pace towards the close, its highest point after going down to a low of 7,219.78 points.

Market bellwether SM Investments provided the backdrop to today's trading as it hit a low of P965.50 that had bargain hunters coming in to push the price up to P989 before closing a notch lower to P987, up by p12.

Except for the property sub-index which lost slightly by 0.13 percent, all others showed gains although below one percent except for the mining and oil which rose by 1.54 percent.
