PSE Index Up For 3rd Day

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today posted a slight gain though the rise in the sub-indices was at sub-1 percent levels as trading remained below average, with investors trying to gauge the effect of the forthcoming ECQ in NCR Plus, which accounts for 70 percent of the GDP, closing at 6,585.21 points, up by 25.15 points or 0.38 percent.

Value turnover was below average, with trades of P4.641 billion with 115 gainers, 73 losers, and 46 shares unchanged. But market pundits believe that the market is expected to test the resistance level at 6,700 level and the arrival of 3 million Moderna doses is a plus factor aside from the rise in the Philippine index funds that are favored by foreign investors.


BDO Unibank posted the biggest trade of P488 million as it rose by P1.90 to close P112.90, while ICTSI gained P7.70 or 4.61 percent to P174.80.


Ayala Land, the third biggest traded stock at P297 million, however, had its share price shaved by 50 centavos to P33.30, while SM Prime increased by 25 centavos to P34.05.

Del Monte was the top loser, going down by 10 percent or by P1.52 to P13.68 after its pronouncement of a delay in its IPO offering due to volatile market conditions. The top gainer was second Basic Energy which rose by 17.53 percent, going up by 9 centavos to P0.57. Market bellwether SM Investments was down by 50 centavos to P964.


PLDT was unchanged at P1,249, Globe was up by P5 to P1,880, and Dito CME by 35 centavos to P7.35.


Market & economy: Market economist in suit and tie reading reports and analysing charts in the office located in the financial district.

Jollibee Foods went down by P3.40 to P192.50, while Nickel Asia rose by 16 centavos to P6.20. Metrobank rose by 75 centavos to P45.95 while Bank of PI was down by 65 centavos.


The sub-indices were up by below 1 percent save for the services sector which gained 1.86 percent and property which lost 0.11 percent. The financials went up by 0.77 percent, industrials, y 0.37 percent, holding firms, 0.06 percent, and mining, by 0.86 percent.
